Capture One Certified Professional Training

Phase One IQ 280Become a certified Capture One professional!

Our Phase One Certified Professional Training Programs will be held in Chicago, IL and Cincinnati, OH this year.

The Phase One Certified Professional training program is designed to give working digital techs the training and skills they need to confidently work with Phase One software and cameras on the most demanding of jobs. It is an advanced course designed for working professionals taught by Phase One Technical Support staff.

Training takes place over a two-day period encompassing everything from efficient on-set workflow to troubleshooting to advanced software techniques. At the end of the two days it culminates with a certification exam. Those who pass the exam are given the title of Phase One Certified Professional and listed in the official Phase One database.

The training program includes:

  • A full license of the NEW Capture One Pro 11
  • A special Trouble Shooting Guide
  • Get listed on Phase One’s website as a “Phase One Certified Digital Tech”
  • Hands on with the Phase One DF+ and XF camera and IQ digital backs.
  • Access to the Phase One Pre-Course

We recommend that you bring a laptop to the training.

A note about Pre-requisite courses:
You MUST complete all courses before the POCP event. Each course is a mixture of articles and videos and includes 1-2 short quizzes. You can take the quizzes as many times as necessary but you must get an 80% to move forward within the course. We expect that the entire online course should not take more than 5 hours total.

FAQ

WHO IS THE COURSE DESIGNED FOR?

The course is designed for Digital Technicians.  This means we cover Capture One as well as Phase One cameras and backs with a focus on how best to work in a high production commercial photoshoot.  If you are not a digital tech, assistant, or commercial photographer please understand that this course might not fit your expectations.

WHAT IS THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS?

There are two steps:

  • Qualification. Take the online prerequisite course and pass all sections.
  • Live training. Attend an official Phase One Certification Training course and pass the written exam at the end.

WHY IS QUALIFICATION NECCESSARY?

Because space is limited and there is a lot of material to cover, it is important that students already have a strong understanding of Capture One and Phase One backs. The online course not only helps to ensure that students are prepared for live training; it also allows us to cover more at the event.

WHAT IF I DO NOT FINISH THE PREREQUISITE COURSE PRIOR TO THE EVENT?

Please make every effort to do this. If we believe you are not ready for training then we will ask you to wait for a future event. Information taught at live training is directly related to information covered in the Pre Course.

WHY GET CERTIFIED?

Many technical industries already have a comprehensive certification process that ensures employers that prospective employees have the necessary skills.  For instance the IT industry has MCSE and Cisco certifications.  One of the great problems in the freelance digital tech industry is that aside from word of mouth, there is no way to know how knowledgeable tech is until you work with them.  Our goal is to create an official certification that is verifiable and ensures a certain level of quality.

There have been several certification programs in the past from manufacturers, however the Phase One Certification program is the first to offer such a high level of training.

HOW LONG IS THE CERTIFICATION VALID?

Certification is good for 2 years.  After that amount of time we expect that there have been enough changes to hardware and software to warrant attending trianing again.  To get re-certified, simply attend a new training course and pass the new exam.  We offer a reduced price for re-certification.

WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT DURING THE TRAINING SEMINAR?

The training program is a hands-on course with Phase One backs in both classroom as well as a live shooting environment.  It will cover proper setup, workflow and troubleshooting techniques for cameras, Phase One backs, and computers. Capture One 9 is covered in depth to provide an understanding of efficient workflow practices and advanced tool use.

The course is approximately 50% Software and 50% Hardware.

HOW LONG IS THE TRAINING SEMINAR?

Typically training is 2 days, 9am – 5pm.  Note that some classes may go later, some may wrap earlier.  Lunch will be provided.

DO I NEED OR REQUIRE A SPECIFIC SKILL LEVEL PRIOR TO ATTENDING?

Yes, it is important that you already have reasonably good understanding of how to use Capture One.  You should also have a fairly advanced understanding of studio photography including strobe based lighting.

WHAT TYPE AND SIZE COMPUTER WILL BE NEEDED?

We recommend bringing a MacBook Pro. Please see our standard minimum specifications for Capture One :

Apple Macintosh:

  • Intel-based Mac
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • 10 GB of free hard disk space
  • Mac OS X 10.9 or later

DO YOU LIMIT THE SIZE OF THE TRAINING SEMINAR?

Yes, each training event is limited to 15 students.  This allows for a manageable class size as well as plenty of hands on opportunities.

WHAT IS THE EXAM LIKE?

The exam is 30 multiple choice questions.  A passing grade is 80% or better.  The questions focus on the main concepts we expect a Certified Professional to be fluent in.  This will be a mix of technique, troubleshooting, and understanding capabilities and limitations of the products.

WHAT IF I DO NOT PASS THE EXAM?

A re-test can be arranged for a small fee.   Retests must be completed within 3 months of the seminar and is limited to 1 retest attempt.
